Digital audio vs Vinyl !

A very nice metaphor
The waveform design with all those discs is very amazing !
I will be a student’s field of work
Tweeter
I’m really flattered and interested: a US student will make a work about “someone in the industry field you are the most interested” (which is actually me, in that case)
I’m really happy to help him and I’ll do my best considering my schedule.
By the way, schedule are only here to be delayed & erased so, let’s go!
Would it mean I’m a bit inspiring ?
Uhhh, I’d like to believe that
Don’t let him to name you a “shit” !

This is a post I wanted to write for a while.
It requires around 7 minutes and it comes with 3 important rules (at the end) I follow in order to keep my lifestyle.
What is that story ?
The action takes place in a restaurant, around 12:00, where I worked a long time ago (I mean, around 2001)
I was a network engineer junior in a big big big factory in south of France.
I just finished my studies at this time.
A colleague, one day, was a bit depressed, I guess. I mean, one of these days when you are a bit anger against everything, and probably, especially against yourself. He was around 50 years old, I was around 25.
We began to discuss, as usual.
At a particular moment, he began to say Continue reading »
Hardware & I
Tweeter
Because I’m often more than one in my head, I like softwares but I like hardwares too.
We are all dual, but in my case, being also Design the Media & Protofuse, I’d like to merge all inside one (astral) body named Julien.
Mates, it is hard sometimes, but finally, if I was one and only one, it wouldn’t be fun would it be ?
This is why, today, after an hard work around the MatriX, I want to make a “unifying (astral) hardware”
It would be software inside hardware, music inside software, engineering but artistic project.
I had some hardware experiences like the protodeck (huge) controller
I designed some other little machines like a monome clone.
But purpose was more to make controllers, I mean: machines I could use to control something (software or other machines)
Here are some unrevealed before photographies from the making of the Protodeck !!

Now & because Protofuse became a huge part of my life (huge projects coming, 2 gigs in that only week in UK, remix & mastering for friends too), I WANT to make a sound machine for me but for you too.
It would pop out ambient & zen sounds, in a relaxation purpose
You could use it everywhere and even load my own sounds produced each month.
Firstly, I’d like to know if you’d like to grab one in the case I’d bring them to life.
Please comment your opinions & feelings about that
I just created a closed facebook group in which I’ll invite only very close collaborators & some friends too in order to share & discuss about my designs.
Check the group and eventually ask me if you think I forgot to join your profile to it : https://www.facebook.com/groups/215860821831464/
Take care.
Why did I decide to switch from win to mac ?
Tweeter
I wanted to repost and share this post again here, on my personal blog.
The original post has been written on Sept 4, 2011
This is the first post about the big dive I decided to have: switching from windows to OSX !
This one won’t be very thick because I didn’t receive the mac book pro yet BUT yes: I ORDERED it.
A little story of walking to MS Windows
I had a computer in hands when I was 6 years old.
My dear father bought a Commodore 64 with which I played and even programmed in Basic a bit.

After that, because he was & still is a big geek interested by technology and hacking, he bought the famous PC Amstrad 1512 with a 20Mbytes hard drive (a must!)

Some SX70 old photographies
Tweeter
I used photography media a lot from 2000 to 2006-2007
Some of my photographies have been exhibited & published here & there.
Photography is a really powerful media to express yourself.
Here are 3 old photographies shot with my Polaroid SX70.
I’ll probably post other photographies on this blog and I’d really like to have your feelings, your words here as comments.

Where do I use to work in Marseille ?
Tweeter
I wanted to make this post since a long time.
CHECK MY SHARED MAP ON GOOGLE MAPS or check it at the end of the post.

Indeed, I used to work with my laptop in many places in Marseille.
It is everytime a great thing to work with fresh air, with constant little town’s noises.
Sometimes, it helps to be more focused too.
Outside, I’m working a bit better.
When I do that, I can work on many things, like I could do at office:
- I make my entrepreneur’s tasks (administrative, orders, etc)
- I code my programs
- I compose my music
- I prepare the next plugins design
Where can I work with my laptop in Marseille ?

I wanted to make this post since a long time.
CHECK MY SHARED MAP ON GOOGLE MAPS

Indeed, I used to work with my laptop in many places in Marseille.
It is everytime a great thing to work with fresh air, with constant little town’s noises.
Sometimes, it helps to be more focused too.
Outside, I’m working a bit better.
When I do that, I can work on many things, like I could do at office:
- I make my entrepreneur’s tasks (administrative, orders, etc)
- I code my programs
- I compose my music
- I prepare the next plugins design
etc
In order to work correctly, what you need is:
- a nice place with people to watch sometimes, to talk sometimes too,
- a safe place to use your laptop safely without having to have your eyes looking at around you,
- a wifi hotspot near from you, if you don’t have a 3G key or you can’t use your Android device like that,
- a place where you can drink something.
But I everytime fight with a problem:
Probably, some of you would say: “ahah, strange post, you can work everywhere”.
For sure, if you are in that case, you never try to do that even for only 4 hours outside.

Even if we can easily find nice places, we have to find at least power supply.
Of course, whatever the laptop you have, you have a battery which can last at least a couple of hours.
BUT:
- when you have to code, program & test with the CPU warming,
- when you have to use wifi because you found a nice free spot,
- when you have to use your screen at almost highest brightness to see something even if the sun shines
… at one moment, probably the most critical, you’ll need a power supply!
So, in this post, I’d like to list all the places where I found power supply, in Marseille.

The best solution is 3G Key with almost unlimited amount of data.
Another nice solution is: using your Android Phone as a 3G “MODEM”. This is called tethering
Bandwidth are VERY acceptable and if you don’t need to play with your friend to the last FPS, it is VERY enough.
You can also want to use a fastest wifi-like connection.
So, in this post, I’d like to list all the places where I found wifi, in Marseille.

This is the easiest criteria, especially here in Marseille (even if sometimes I want to move from Marseille)
Several ideas of type of place could be:
- parc
- cafés
- librairies
The main areas where I used to go are:
- near from Vieux-Port,
- near from the beaches (Pointe Rouge, but Escale Borély too)
- Alcazar & Bonneveine Librairies
So here is the big list of places where I worked.
I’d love to make this list growing with your experience, your ideas.
Working outside
Tweeter
Design the Media works hard on their projects.
We are involved on a lot of big or smaller projects which require technology & skill.

But we everytime keep in mind something important:
the place where you work is almost as important as your skill & the serious you put in all tasks.
As much as possible, I work outside.
It makes my/our work more sustainable.
Awful place, tight offices aren’t for me/us.
With basic technology, we can work here, there, code, share, program, sketch everywhere in the world.
I often work like that because it makes breath more efficient, and the CPU can be much more efficient as your brain.
If my students are very happy to come here in Marseille, this is also because:
- the weather is always fine
- we’re studying VERY near from the sea where we have lunch
- there isn’t BAD traffic problem here
This place really offers a lot.
I hope you’ll like those pictures and we could one day begin to organize/schedule meeting in the grass together to talk about hardware, software, open source & more!
