My M4_U feelings & report
Tweeter
I wrote “my” because I wanted to relate my feelings, my perception of this very great & unique event made in Leicester and at which I have been invite by Sean Carroll.
My M4_U started a bit late, because I was travelling.
Indeed, I caught my flight around 10h50, landing on Gatwick Airport, then took a train to St Pancras Intl, and then another one to Leicester.

Let’s make music only now

The MatriX is waiting for you
I just released my latest sequencer for Ableton Live.
The official post is here
I liked to design it and I’ll be happy to improve it too.
I already had some nice feedbacks and I’m very curious of what you’ll design with it ![]()
It is a tool for me, but especially for all of us too!
Let me know if you want me to publish one of your nice sequence!
Now, let’s prepare the 2 shows
I’m now totally finishing to prepare my 2 live performances in UK on next friday & saturday.
I’m happy to fly there to meet Cycling 74 CEO & developers. Those gurus are cool & fun & .. GURUS.
I don’t regret too much to have declined the invitation to speak. My keynote wasn’t finished and I didn’t want to rush things & make a bad lecture.
I can announce here I’ll probably try to make it in french (!) in Marseille and after that, I’ll publish my Keynote slideshows.
The subject is : Max6 & Max for Live as the framework alternative to pure C++ programming

2 lives performance scheduled in UK
Tweeter
I’ll play 2 music live performances very soon in UK in Leicester.
Thanks to Sean and the team to have invited me.
I’m sure we’ll have fun
Check the event global schedule here
Here is a VERY smal extract of the live I’ll perform on next saturday (the 14th)

Here are all the informations required:
Friday 13th january
Between 7:30pm – 11:00pm @ Fabrika, Humberstone Gate, Leicester
One sound performance exploring ambient soundscapes & haunting noisy drones.
This will be very close from what I’m currently composing for my Lovecraft’s project.
Saturday 14th january
8:30pm @ Phoenix Square, Midland Street, Leicester, LE1 1TG
One sound performance exploring syncopated rythmed & noisy glitches IDM.
I hope to meet you there!
I can also link my artistic website here: protofuse.net
The NEXT sequencer playing SKANNER
Tweeter
(check the video at the end of this article)
SKANNERis a synthesizer based on scanned synthesis, made by Native Instruments as a REAKTOR‘S ensemble (an ensemble is like a max patch, a bunch of visualized objects connected with cords)
Scanned synthesis involves a slow dynamic system whose frequencies of vibration are below about 15 Hz. The ear cannot hear the low frequencies of the dynamic system. So, to make audible frequencies, the “shape” of the dynamic system, along a closed path, is scanned periodically. The “shape” is converted to a sound wave whose pitch is determined by the speed of the scanning function. Pitch control is completely separate from the dynamic system control. Thus timbre and pitch are independent. This system can be looked upon as a dynamic wave table. The model can be compared to a slowly vibrating string, or a two dimensional surface obeying the wave equation. (WIKIPEDIA)

Uncanny Sequencer in the real world
Tweeter
My friend & beta tester Tristan Héau tweaked & composed a track with The Uncanny Sequencer.
Track made using Uncanny Sequencer for the drums and a Theremin (instrument by Puremagnetik). Mixing standard 4/4 with 5/4 divisions.
I really thank him a lot. Designing tools and seeing (listening) people using it, independantly from you is … like magic.
I’d like to make a kind of sequencer contest.
It would be named: The Uncanny Contest
You can already send me your sequence (NO MP3, please links to soundcloud), and I’ll compile that and publish you on designthemedia.com I’ll post them in the forum here: http://designthemedia.com/topic/64-the-uncanny-contest/
Use that crack in monotony
Tweeter
I want to thank you all for the nice “welcome to the world !!” yelled about my last software designed The Uncanny Sequencer
For those who missed a step, I just released a very special music sequencer named The Uncanny Sequencer. I invite you to read this post and that one (that one explains why I named it like that, and it mixes David Lynch, Uncanney Valley concept & more)
So, THANKS TO YOU.
It gives me a lot of power to understand you like my designs.
It brings me to continue my way into art & technology fields.
Today, I want to talk about something very important:
the little crack into monotony
This a coaching stuff, I guess.
I mean.. I’m using it everyday to live better and it works.
It would help you in your life, job, for sure.
My very best OSX tools and apps
Tweeter
You already know I’m a computer science background guy/geek.
I always worked with Windows & Linux/Unix.
This was more an habit than a real decision.
Developing C++, HTML or other Max patch, I would have been well on any platform, considering those stuff almost platform-independant.
I mean: coding C++ in Visual Studio, Eclipse or XCode on OSX is everytime coding C++
But I needed :
- HUGE battery autonomy
- Massive RAM amount
- a platform to develop iOS stuff
The last item drives me to OSX/MacBook Pro, obviously, but the first item too.
You can check this old post about me, just before the big jump.
During those 2 months with OSX, I grabbed some necessary apps, and I wanted, today, share them with you.
You can comment and add some apps too, it would be a pleasure to make that list growing.
Here is the list :
My first days with my mac book pro
Tweeter
I wanted to repost and share this post again here, on my personal blog.
The original post has been written on Sept 16, 2011
I received my macbook pro 3 days ago. no more.
0/ some configuration times
Because I’m a wise guy, I put all my data in one folder with subfolders etc.
So I had only to copy that one to the new machine.
I had to install all mac versions of software I’m using everyday (I mean Ableton Live, ALL Native Instruments stuff)
I found a very easy to setup os.
Indeed, I know computers since my first Commodore 64 as I explained here.
But the reason is: all is VERY well designed.
I had to configure time machine for backuping incrementally my datas.
And now, after 8hours, I was already totally operational and ready to work!
1/ first feelings
The first one is: all seems (and finally IS) simple.
You can thus focus on the core of your needs ; for me, they are: making music, coding, designing hardware.
