myUniverse

-required time to read: approx. 15min

Because every makers/creators/artists have their own universe, it is obvious that, at a particular point of their lives, they want to make the big equation of everything in order to describe it.

Indeed, we (artists), are strange people.
We want to show you everything of us, sometimes nothing, oscillations being a huge part of our work, if we can consider we are working, because I’d prefer to write we are living, instead working.. our life being our work or vice versa.

Building an universe from nothing seems to be hard.
But there are already many parts we just have to stick, to agglomerate, to join.

In my case, I’m just multiple which doesn’t mean mentally ill!

The multiple parts of myself – working together

Art takes its sense with the word technic.
Indeed, even if some doesn’t agree with that, we know art is also relatic to skill.
Britannica Online says Art is “the use of skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others.”

How to separate skill & imagination ?
Indeed, it seems hard, but education, societies, and globally jobs & bosses tend to make you using right & left parts of the brain absolutely not at the same time, which breaks absolutely our bunch of super-powers being inside of us.
My great friend Laurent (Boghossian) agrees 100% with that and it means a lot for me as he’s one of the most accurate to explain that kind of global human theory through his books about management, self-improvement.

Indeed, you have to notice that: each Continue reading »

Early lines from my next iPad app

When you are coding, you need visuals, sometimes.
Working on my next 2D sequencer for iPad, I just illustrated some values inside the sequencer engine.

Btw, the final product will be very visual but polished & beautiful :)

Things go well & fast considering it totally works on my iPad for the gui (not yet shown), the sound engine (at least the global part), the sequences (multi sequences system)

More, you won’t have seen something like that before.
Stay tuned !

iPad2 cheaper, me better

I bought an iPad 2, 16Gb, Wifi.
I’ll use it obviously for development purposes, and OBVIOUSLY, for more.

I’m a mobile man, you know that.
I love to code here, there and often there!
I published something about my mobility there.
I tested the 3 applications (1 submitted, 1 finished not submitted + the sequencer in progress)
They work … seamlessly, efficiently .
Really, I found my way & workflow to produce nice iOS applications.

That new way makes me more focusing on the core & features of my applications, even if memory management, especially, still have to be in mind everytime.

Soon, photos of me + my iPad2 :)

Maximilian audio library, Openframeworks & iOS

A very fast message, before a longer one.
I hesitated about the right  sound library to use in my iOS machine project.

Maximilian is a very powerful wrapper that allows to use portaudio or rtaudio very easily.

If you try to compile your XCode project using Maximilian, BE SURE you have linked the Accelerate.framework library.
Without it  won’t work anymore and you can look for very long time.

Many thanks to joshua who hardly try to help me as the newbie of the day.
But indeed, it hasn’t been written anywhere !

(so I’m a bit proud to have found this one :p)

The reference post is there

OpenFrameworks VS ObjectiveC sex appeals.

OpenFrameworks won very very easily, mates.
More word about that soon. It means … VERY soon.
And you’ll be surprised.
Not even teasing here: the real followers know already what it is :)

For interested and impatient people, OpenFrameworks is based here.
But, indeed, if you are impatient about me, about what I’m making right now, the best way is to learn to become a bit patient, yep!

When Twin Peaks’ poetry meets ObjectiveC language

A bit of poetry, please.

“I feel the primitive C-types in Objective C language wrapped into objects by NSNumber wrapper like the poor Laura wrapped in plastic”
– me

Then I have some questions:
- Was Laura a primitive type as well ?
- Is Bob the compiler ?
- Does Major Briggs know about why mutable objects are more used than unmutable stuff ?
- Is the Log Lady related to NSLog ?
- Where is the Red Room in the SDK ?

The major one is : should I be Dale Cooper to really master all of that ?

The Protoclidean sequencer for Ableton Live

Announcing the next sequencer for Ableton Live. Based on euclidean algorithm, it offers a very nice & flexible way to distribute your notes in a time interval.

It will be available very soon at http://designthemedia.com/theprotoclidean

I enjoyed to design it because I tried to use the sketch javascript object inside JSUI Max6 object.
This is a very nice way to embed UI + engine inside something that is … very fast.

I hope you’ll like this new unusual sequencer.
As you already know, I don’t like boring usual stuff.

Break the line, go where noone waits for you then become unique!
