Spread your Max6 standalones through Mac AppStore

Some of us, geeks, developers, testers had already tried to do that, because the way seemed an amazing manner of spreading: Build Max6 – based applications as standalone and distributed via Mac AppStore.

It wasn’t really difficult, BUT it seemed a bit unofficial (which doesn’t absolutely mean illegal)
It was just undocumented.

Basically, the challenge has been to fit tightly with Apple’s requirements, which was a bit facilitated by the fact Cycling 74‘s developers are one of the rare development company to code very well & clean.
The most important thing is about security and drives us to make things clean about the filesystem.
Indeed, OSX & iOS worlds are both very secured (as any UNIX-based OS) and of course the application cannot write everywhere, everytime etc. So this is the point to be close to.

By the  way, making an app like that isn’t that hard BUT the main problem remaining is, ever, the sync.
I obviously studied many systems but, because I don’t want my users to have to make too much complex tasks, I didn’t (yet) produce app like that.
By sync, I meant: as I LOVE sequencers, I need to sync them to your preferred DAW. That way requires an accurate & solid clock.
We’ll see if I have time / opportunities to make a system on my own.

This is the first post about the big dive I decided to have: switching from windows to OSX !
This one won’t be very thick because I didn’t receive the mac book pro yet BUT yes: I ORDERED it.

A little story of walking to MS Windows
I had a computer in hands when I was 6 years old.
My dear father bought a Commodore 64 with which I played and even programmed in Basic a bit.

After that, because he was & still is a big geek interested by technology and hacking, he bought the famous PC Amstrad 1512 with a 20Mbytes hard drive (a must!)

How to use consistent paths in max standalones ?

You want to build some max standalones for both worlds : windows & mac.
You want to keep one and only one codebase.

BUT You have to use path because your patch architecture requires it.
Ok.
